Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 18, 2026

This policy explains how the Fallen World in-game chat (the "Chat") handles your information. It applies to the Chat feature provided through our Fallout 4 mods and the chat service at chat.fallenworld.nexus. It does not cover Nexus Mods, Discord, or any other third-party service, each of which has its own privacy policy.

The chat is public

The Chat is a public, global chat. Every message you send is shown to all other players connected in-game and is mirrored to our Discord server, where it may be visible to the public. Please do not share personal, private, or sensitive information in the Chat.

What we collect

When you use the Chat, we process:

  • Messages you send, including their text and any commands.
  • Your display name, which you choose and can change at any time.
  • A randomly generated ID created on your device the first time you use the Chat. It is not linked to your real identity and is used to apply moderation actions consistently.
  • A per-installation key used to recognise legitimate copies of the mod and prevent abuse.
  • Connection details, including your IP address, recorded by our server.
  • Your in-game location, meaning your character's location within Fallout 4 and not your real-world location, is sent with each message. It is not stored or shown to anyone.

Why we use it

We use this information only to operate and protect the Chat:

  • Delivering your messages to other players and to our Discord server.
  • Moderation and enforcement, such as removing banned users, filtering prohibited content, and preventing impersonation of staff.
  • Abuse prevention, such as blocking spam, floods, and connections from proxies or VPNs used to evade bans.

We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or analytics, and we never sell or rent it.

Where it is stored

Chat data is processed and stored on the FallenWorld chat server, which we operate. It is not stored on Nexus Mods. Your randomly generated ID and chat preferences are also saved locally on your own device.

Sharing

Messages are mirrored to our Discord server as part of the public chat.

To prevent ban evasion, your IP address is checked against a third-party service that identifies proxies, VPNs, and known sources of abuse. Only your IP address is sent, never your messages, display name, or ID. We can tell you which provider we use on request.

Aside from the above, we do not share your information with third parties, except where we are required to by law. Your IP address is kept on our server for moderation and firewall purposes and is not shown in public channels or Discord alerts.

How long we keep it

Recent messages are kept briefly so newcomers can see the latest activity, then discarded. Raw connection logs, including IP addresses, are kept for up to 30 days and then automatically deleted. After that, we retain only the records needed to enforce moderation, such as the IDs of banned or restricted accounts and blocked names. We do not use any of this data for advertising, profiling, or tracking you across other services.

Your choices

Taking part in the Chat is optional. If you decline the notice shown when you first open the Chat, you will not connect and no chat data is sent. You can change your display name at any time. If you would like us to review or remove data associated with you, contact us using the details below and we will do our best to help.

Children

The Chat is not intended for anyone below the age at which they can consent to data processing in their country. Please do not use it if you are under that age.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
